Welcome back SDC members and guests from the March Madness of the Senate District Conventions. The April monthly general meeting will be at Bayland Park Community Center from 10AM to Noon on Saturday, April 26. This months meeting will focus on some of our local Sharpstown candidates. Our speakers are:
Dexter Handy Candidate for County Commissioner, Pct 3 
Sam Pearson Candidate for Constable, Pct 5
Peter Rene Candidate for Justice of the Peace, Pct 5, Place 1 [Invited but unconfirmed] Come meet these fine Democratic candidates for local office, learn their views of the issues and problems we face at the local level and what their plans are to improve government at the local level. Come early at 9:30AM to visit with club members, share the latest political gossip and enjoy our usual snacks.

The February monthly general meeting will be at Bayland Park Community Center from 10AM to Noon on Saturday, February 23. Our special invited speaker will be David Mincberg, candidate for County Judge. David will discuss his campaign and his ideas for the County Commissioner Court.
February is also the month for electing the 2008 Sharpstown Democrats Club Officers and Executive Committee members. If you have not already done so, please remember to pay your 2008 dues prior to the meeting if you want to vote in the elections. Remember: dues are on a calendar year basis - i.e., January through December - and do not carry over into the next calendar year. Come early at 9:30AM to visit with club members, share the latest political gossip and enjoy our usual snacks. |

The January monthly general meeting will be at Bayland Park Community Center from 10AM to Noon on Saturday, January 26. Our special invited speaker will be Senate District 17 Chair, Bert Anson. Bert will describe and discuss the Democratic Party delegate procedures and mechanisms for the Precinct, Senate District, State and National Conventions. If you are interested in becoming a Delegate and attending any fo the Democratic Party Conventions at any level, this is the meeting for you.  The October monthly general meeting will be at Bayland Park Community Center from 10AM to Noon on Saturday, October 27. Our special invited speaker will be Houston City Council Member Sue Lovell. Councilwoman Lovell will fill us in on the behind the scenes action at City Hall. This will be a great opportunity to meet Councilwoman Lovell, hear her views and provide your feedback. Also on the meeting agenda is the final vote regarding the bylaws ammendment to change the election date for SDC officers and board members. Come early at 9:30AM to visit with club members, share the latest political gossip and enjoy our usual snacks. |

The September monthly general meeting will be at Bayland Park Community Center from 10AM to Noon on Saturday, September 22. Our special invited speaker will be the Honorable Al Green , US Congressman, Texas 9th CD. Congressman Green is a terrific speaker and I'm sure he will fill us in on the behind the scenes action from the last congressional session. This will be a great opportunity to meet your Congressman, hear his views and provide your feedback. Due to Congressman Green's schedule, the meeting will start promplty at 10AM so don't be late for what is certain to be an interesting and stimulating discussion. Come early at 9:30AM to visit with club members, share the latest political gossip and enjoy our usual snacks.

Our special invited speaker will be Scott Hochberg, Texas State Representative District 137. Scott will share his perspectives on this last legislative session and what changes and effects we can expect. Garnet will share his unique inside perspective on the victories and defeats of this last legislative session. Just a quick reminder that the Bayland Community Center is closed this Saturday, May 26th, for the Memorial Day holiday so the Sharpstown Democrats Club will not have it's usual general meeting this month. Enjoy the Memorial Day holiday everyone and we will see you at the next regular SDC meeting on Saturday, June 23rd. Don't forget to vote in the run-off election on Saturday, June 16th, for Houston City Council At Large Position 3.

The Sharpstown Democrats Club will hold it's April General Meeting on Saturday, April 28th, at Bayland Park Community Center [6400 Bissonnet] from 10am to Noon. We are making plans for 2007 and we need to hear from you so don't miss this important meeting! Invited Presenters Bert Anson Chair Senate District 17 will advise us of Senate District 17's plans for 2007. Julie Jackson Chair Harris County Democratic Party Clubs and Organizations will advise us of the HCDP's plans for clubs and organizations. Please make plans to join us for our April Meeting. The Sharpstown Democrat's March meeting will be held at Bayland Community Center, 6400 Bissonnet, Saturday, March 24 at 10am.Evelyn L. Merz, our guest speaker, has a wealth of experience in local water and wildlife conservation and environmental issues. Evelyn co-founded the Sims Bayou Coalition and is active in coordinating the local Sierra Club response to inadequate funding of Texas state parks. She served as representative to the Harris County Flood Control Task Force and Vegetation Management Committee. She has worked on projects in conjunction with other agencies including U of H Coastal Center, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Texas Parks & Wildlife and East Texas Plant Materials Center. In our business section of the meeting we will have Election of the 2007 Officers and Board Members. Please arrive early to meet our guest, drink coffee and discuss issues.
Our guest in February was candidate for city council pos 3, Melissa Noriega. All members present agreed to endorse Ms. Noriega. We hope to help with voter registration and voter turnout campaigns for this special election to be held on May 12. Please stay tuned for details.
